Today, students across Ontario will be learning from home. Although this can be quite challenging, here are a few reminders that might help make the most of the online learning experience until face-to-face instruction resumes:

1️⃣ Create a schedule that works for you.

Learning from home can make it hard to separate moments of productivity from moments of rest. Create a routine in order to add structure to the day – give yourself enough time to eat breakfast or maybe even get in a few minutes of exercise before logging into class, and don’t forget to take breaks!

2️⃣ Set a daily goal for yourself.

Keep yourself accountable by setting daily personal or learning goals that you would like to accomplish. Maybe your goal is to read 3 chapters of your novel study, or work on an upcoming assignment. The clearer you are about your goals, the easier it is to achieve them – you can even give yourself a reward for completing them!

3️⃣ Avoid distractions.

If possible, try to find a quiet space to avoid distractions – and don’t forget to turn your phone on silent, or leave it in another room until your break!

4️⃣ Try to make the most of it – don’t be afraid to interact with others.

The lack of in person contact can feel awkward or isolating, but try to find ways to make connections with your peers by participating, staying present, or interacting with classmates during class discussions or group activities.

5️⃣ Don’t hesitate to ask for help if you think you need it.

With online learning, it may feel as though your teacher is out of reach but it is important that you ask for assistance or clarity if you need it. And, of course, if you need additional support we are here to help!
